We’re two brothers with more than 30 years in the hatter’s trade, learned side by side at the same bench, and we’ve put our name to dozens of caps. Wool, corduroy, leather, linen, herringbone, mesh. We know what goes into every one of them, and into most of what hangs in the shops. Today we each wear one cap, and one only. Here’s why.
Read the brothers’ reasons ↓Pick up any ball cap and look inside. A foam panel holds the front up, a plastic snap strap does the sizing, and somebody else’s logo sits on your forehead. The foam goes first: it creases, it sags, and you stop reaching for it.

A foam-front cap is plastic against your forehead. It doesn’t breathe, your head runs hot, and by mid-afternoon the band has left a red line where it dug in. We won’t wear that ourselves, so we didn’t build it into this cap.

A cap should sit down on your head, not perch on top of it like a plate. The low, panelled crown does that on its own. The two side buckles do the rest, from 52 to 62 cm (20.5 to 24.4 in), which covers virtually every adult head, the big ones included.
One honest note: more men tell us a cap arrived a touch loose than too tight. If that’s you, take both buckles in evenly, a notch at a time. It stays where you set it.
